2012 Spire
Back unchanged for 2012, the Spire is perhaps Elan's most versatile ski, along with the Apex. This is a can't miss ski for mostly off-piste challenges. It handles bumps as well, if not better, than any wide ski we sell. The rockered tip enhances quickness and edge sets in cruddy snow, yet floats over crap better than the old 999. Super quick edge to edge, and very snaky in bumps. Good groomer ski as well: it has 2 sheets of metal, but is not overly stiff. It really is versatile; certainly, it has a big sweet spot, as all good off-piste skis do, but isn't overly dead or dull. Think of the classic Volkl Gotama, but updated: that is what you have in the current Elan Spire. Also great in speeds slow or fast, especially when crushing crud and manky snow off piste. This is a very well-rounded ski for any type of condition that you are likely to face at a challenging resort. It also is light in weight, so it makes an excellent AT ski, or even a burlier Tele ski.
