2018 Blizzard Brahma Ski new w/carbon tip and tail
The 2018 Blizzard Brahma is a far superior ski to the model it replaces, making it one of the premier mid-width everyday skis on the market. Carbon has been added to the tip and tail; the Brahma retains its flipcore construction, but with a lighter swing weight and more progressive tip and tail engagement. The lateral flex is more forgiving, especially at the tip, and the ski seems to blend into the terrain and turn shape much better than before. The old ski tended to demand a certain turn shape and skiing speed.
For quite a stiff ski, I found the Brahma especially agreeable in the bumps and tight spaces. The tail is more relaxed that the old model: it finishes a turn less aggressively and with a more even release of energy, making it a welcome partner in the steep chutes of Mt. Rose. It can still be laid over on groomers, but the flipcore does take a bit of the bite and energy from the ski; it is best in variable conditions instead of as a specialized groomer tool. For that ski, look at the new Quattro 8.4.
