2019 Stockli Stormrider 88
2020 Stockli Stormrider 88; now taking orders for preseason 2020. Call for details!
All new for 2020, the Stockli Stormrider 88 is all you loved about the previous version, but with more performance. The older and newer skis are very similar, but the new tip design and flex on the SR88 offers more stability and confidence in junky snow. The ski also feels more substantial at speed, yet with a slightly more forgiving tail. I loved the SR88 in soft, slow, spring bumps, and it also trucked through crud easily and with a fairly high speed limit.
The SR88 is the ski for the 7/10ths skier: It is most happy at slow to medium, medium, or medium to fast speeds. The 88 can be pressured and bent at any speed, yet handles faster speeds fairly well. It won't likely match the Stormrider 95 for top-end performance, as the 95 features a stiffer layup and more metal. The 95 is exceptionally forgiving for such a high-performance weapon, but the 88 is even more forgiving when skied by a moderate-energy athlete. Also, being 88mm instead of 95mm, it does seem to come onto edge quicker, although once there, the 95mm Stormrider has as much grip as the narrower 88.
Length recommendations: plus to minus 5cm of head height. I am 175cm tall and prefer the 177cm. For reference, I ski either the 175cm or 184cm Stormrider 95.
The SR88 is truly one of the best firm snow bump and glade skis in existence.
